I AM paying off a credit card which has an amount of $7500 owing. Although I am required to pay a minimum of about $160 each month, I am paying $500. I would like to know how this affects my credit rating. If I am making regular payments at above the required amount, will this work in my favour?

I AM 54 and my wife is 53. We are both permanently employed and have $44,000 and $33,000 in super respectively. We own our own home. I have a QSuper fund which has a combined 17% employer/self-contribution. Recently my wife inherited approximately $100,000. We are unsure how to invest this amount.

Q: I am getting fed up with my gas and electricity bills being so high when my retirement income is dwindling and have been trying to save using all the usual tricks. I am tempted to switch providers but it’s very hard to judge if there is a difference between them – is there any way I can compare or are they all the same?

MY wife holds a share portfolio currently worth about $250,000. I understand that in the fiscal year she no longer works (and hence has no employer contribution to her super fund), she can transfer the share portfolio to her super fund and receive a concession to reduce the capital gains tax which would otherwise be payable from the transfer (sale) of the share fund.

WE are trying to pay extra on our mortgage. Is there any good time to add extra amounts? Beginning, middle or end of the month?

We made a profit on a business that we sold at the end of March 2008. We have deferred the CGT by using the two-year rule to roll into another business. If we decide not to buy another business are we still able to offset the CGT by putting funds into superannuation?

My family trust owns a property which I bought for about $650,000 about six years ago and is now worth about $1.1 million. It pays the trust an income of $95,000 through rent. The trust distributes it to me and I pay income tax on the disbursement. I am 60 years old. Is there any way of moving this property into a personal super fund so that I can take the earnings tax free? Can I move the property without paying capital gains tax of more than $100,000?
