HELP! We’re throwing a party for work colleagues who are notoriously fussy and Nigella I am not. Any tips on something simple that even a child (moi – in the kitchen, anyway) could achieve? I really can’t cook and am not confident about entertaining but can't afford a caterer.

I HAVE found that sometimes my curries lack the intensity and flavour I would like – it is as though the sauce does not meld with the meat. I have also had some disasters making the curry too hot and had to throw it all away. Any tips?

Q: I HAVE had a good sparkling wine in the fridge for three years. Will that length of time ruin it? And can I remove it from the fridge for six months or any amount of time, then put it back in the fridge when I am finally ready to drink it?

Q: I WAS sick recently and inundated with suggestions that I eat chicken soup as it has healing powers. Some of my friends even made it for me and brought it over. Although it did make me feel good I am not sure if it was just psychosomatic. Is there any truth in the rumour?

I WAS out fishing the other day and suddenly wondered: Do fish have flatulence? Given they don't breathe in the same way as we do and if they got full of gas they might float to the surface? And that they probably have a different digestive process (not to mention that they probably don't eat beans)? Do you think you could find an expert to answer this question?
