I AM going to Israel in late October and would like to go to some European destination, possibly Spain, for a week or so before then, getting a return airfare from Sydney to that location but I need a location that has airlines which fly to Israel and back. Can you help?

I TURN 65 in August. I was born in Australia and have lived here permanently since 1971 having spent six years overseas studying and travelling. I want to live in Thailand and will need to receive the aged pension to do this. I have no assets to speak of apart from furniture. Will it be possible for me to receive the Age Pension while living in Thailand?

Q: I’M 74 years old and would like to live overseas in Chile for a couple or more years. I’m naturalised Australian but hold dual citizenship. I'm told that I cannot be away overseas for more than six months otherwise I lose my pension. I'm also told that to be away for longer than six months, for example, for a couple of years, I must have lived and worked in Australia for at least 18 years.

Q: CAN pensions be transferred overseas? I have lived and worked in Australia since 1977. I am 76 this year and still working. My wife is retired and is 72 this year. If we decide to return to the UK within the next two years, can we have a pension transferred to the UK? We receive no pension at the moment as I earn beyond the limit. However, when I retire I shall be entitled to one, according to Centrelink.

Q: I am heading overseas just after Christmas for the first time for quite a few years and am not quite sure the best way to take money and how to make sure I don’t lose it - last time I went everyone used travellers cheques but I am not sure if this is still the case especially with ATMs and credit cards so easily available.

Q: I RETURNED to Australia in January 2007 having spent the previous 20 months in the Philippines. I then had a brief (10 day) holiday in Bali in March 2008 and was surprised to find that, having followed instructions to report any such travel to Centrelink, that my pension was suspended for the period away.

Q: I AM currently working in Thailand (this is my second year) and wish to retire in Malaysia next year. I am already 65 so am entitled to an Australian pension (having worked there for over 35 years). Will I be able to stay overseas immediately I am granted a pension? (I know I will have to return to Australia to make the initial pension claim.)

Q: I HAVE heard that flying east causes worse jetlag than flying west. Also, apparently there is a jetlag difference depending on whether you fly from the east coast of Australia or from the west, say Perth. Is this true and if so, why?

Q: MY WIFE and I will shortly be travelling to Europe for a river cruise. Our travel agent suggested we obtain a Travelex Cash Passport ATM Card and deposit funds into it to draw as necessary whilst overeas. Would that card be more beneficial than just using our Visa card overseas, taking into consideration the various costs and security/safety considerations?

Q: IF I AM declared a non-resident (i.e. an Australian living abroad) am I able to withdraw my super contributions without penalty?
