DEEPLY entrenched and often unconscious, ageism in the workforce is a scourge that affects the lives of many 45-plus Australians and our society in general.
Depriving businesses of precious skills and knowledge, straining health services and increasing homelessness, unemployment rates and government expenditure, illegal age discrimination, which under the Age Discrimination Act refers to treating someone differently on the basis of age, is an issue that stems from the unfounded stereotype that “older” equals “less capable”.

TREASURY projections based on the intergenerational report have forecast that by 2050 there will be only 2.7 people of working age for every person over 65. Previously the question has been when we could afford to retire but now it’s whether the country can afford to let us put our feet up.
